Faculty & Visiting Speaker, University of Chicago
An in-depth panel discussion dissecting the 18th BRICS Summit, analyzing the aims, strategies, and internal tensions animating this key political grouping of the Global South.
About the Panel Discussion
India chaired the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi earlier this month. The panel will unpack the aims, strategies and tensions animating the foremost political grouping representing the Global South. In particular, it will focus on China, India and Russia – the three principal actors in the group.
The panel will address the following key questions: What did the three actors hope to gain from the summit and what did they actually achieve? What impact did the summit have on China-India relations and Russia-India relations? How did the summit manage to navigate the ongoing wars in eastern Europe and the Middle East? Did the summit signal that the BRICS overcome its inherent contradictions such as the India-China strategic competition? How does the BRICS influence Indo-Pacific geopolitics and the international order?
