Self-contained public lectures, keynote addresses, and research seminars.
Alan Kay, recipient of the 2003 Turing Award, discusses the unrealized potential of personal computing, drawing connections between early conceptualizations like the Dynabook and the evolution of object-oriented programming paradigms exemplified by Smalltalk.
Argues that biological cell signaling—millions of autonomous, late-bound message-passing agents—offers a far deeper architectural model for scalable software than brittle data structures.
Alan Kay discusses the state of Computer Science education with CMU faculty and students in 2007, challenging contemporary curricula and advocating for fundamental shifts in pedagogical approach to computation and design.
A seminal talk by Alan Kay, a pioneer in computer science, reflecting on the profound impact of simplicity in the design of complex systems and programming languages.
